Mercy Hospital Washington is obtaining permits from the city to demolish the properties and boarded up the windows and doors last week as a precaution. Hospital President Eric Eoloff said the hospital plans to raze the seven residential structures later this month.

"Increased parking capacity has been a need here for a few years," Eoloff said. "We do not have a formal proposal for a parking lot on this block yet, but expect it will come forward as part of a larger campus expansion in the future, the date for which we cannot give you at this time."

Once demolished, the hospital plans to use the property as a parking lot which will play a part in a larger campus expansion in the future.Hospital officials said additional details about the expansion could not be released.
