then and now jail

History Repeats Itself

In February 1970 — then Franklin County Sheriff H. Bill Miller, left, demonstrated the “new” security doors on cells located in what is now the historic courthouse in Union. The doors replaced the antiquated steel bars on the cells. Fast forward 50 years to July 2020 as current Sheriff Steve Pelton displays the new cells installed as part of the $30 million county jail construction and renovation project. Pelton led The Missourian on a tour of the progress at the new jail Thursday, July 16. Missourian Photos.
