This month’s American Culture Topics book discussion at Neighborhood Reads Bookstore will be on the book “Kennedy and King: the President, the Pastor, and the Battle Over Civil Rights,” by Steven Levingston.

The discussion, led by Bill Schwab, a book reviewer for The Missourian’s MO Books Blog, will be Thursday, Jan. 18, from 3-4 p.m.

A New York Times Editor’s Pick, the book traces the emergence of two of the 20th century’s greatest leaders, their powerful impact on each other and on the shape of the civil rights battle between 1960 and 1963.

“As the United States still tries to come to grips with the legacy of slavery and the doggedness of discrimination, ‘Kennedy and King’ is a stunning contribution to the literature of the Civil Rights Movement. It is an informative and powerful read,” Schwab wrote in his review of the book on the MO Books Blog.
