Let the city officials continue to do a good job in closing this dilapidated airport that has done nothing but created a debt to our city residents. I praise each and everyone of the current administration and every citizen of this city for coming together and pushing this to get done. Great job, please keep it going! 6 months ago
stclarian, you obviously have no clue, you have not not came up with an idea yourself and as an avid airport supporter you have not even came up with proof of how the airpport has benefitted the city of St.Clair. Yet you want to poke fun at someone who has. Again this is the exact reason the airport has failed so long. Individuals such as the stclarian who want something for nothing at the expense of the citizens of this town. These hobbyist pilots have the type of thought process that nothing else matters. These pilots actually believe they can make an airport succesful with 4 to 5 pilots and really no revenue comiong in to mention. They think that the city owes them this and that they are making a difference in the world. They think that by taking off and landing every weekend that they are contributing to a town when actually we as citizens of this town are paying for every flight they take in and out of this airport. Every time they take off or land the dollar signs are being compensated by the citizens of this town. The truth is every time the hobbyist at best 4 to 5 pilots see a citizen of St.Clair they should say thank you for supporting their hobby which helps our city in no way what so ever, but cost us dearly!
I have actually nothing to do with city goverment and never have in this town or any other. But I will not tolerate as a tax payer in this town to keep financing a losing situation such as the airport. The idea to enforce a take-off and landing fee would in itself stop the waste at this airport. The take off and circle around and land, takeoff and circle around and land.......This is useless waste that brings nothing to the city or even the county for that matter. Talk to other airports in the area and they think this airport is a joke.
Still no one can come up with any proof of profitability, business opportunities or anything else this airport has done besides house a play ground for the fearless hobbyist at best pilots. 6 months ago
Tim Dempsey, Old guy, and the other two pilots, I commend you on taking the Boy Scouts flying, even more so out of your own pay for the fuel. But lets really face facts and present exactly how they actually are and not what could be or could have been. First as I have said I commend any good effort to helping an organization such as the Boy Scouts. Its just that in reality this could have been done in Washington, Sullivan and other places. As the old guy said below they came from Cuba which means they would have had to pass right by Sullivan. They came from Warrenton which means they passed right by Washington. Did the fuel you put in your plane come from St.Clair?? Because if not I see no benefits at all to this city which has paid dearly to keep this airport alive. The truth be known for you pilots this is probably even a right off on your taxes. So facts really being put on the table you are not really giving anything but your time, because the rest is being paid by the taxpayers of this city.
The fact you help an organization is great, but one should do it with out any other motives in mind. One should also do it at their own expense and not at the expense of taxpayers of a city. If one wants to really be charitable give from the heart without any expectations of a return.
This airport has been a waste fro many decades, never ever showing any profit. Its time it goes. Its great to help the Boy Scouts but clearly by your pilots own admission other airports were even closer to their location. The City Of St.Clair is who suffers from this. Its simple and I can help you with the math, 4 to 5 pilots cannot keep an airport alive and on a path of growth. It is not possible. You have proven exactly what I have said by just simply looking over the past decades. You cannot prove it has ever been a viable asset. It has never shown a profit, nor has it ever paid its own way for even a simple billing month. The St.Clair City residents taxes are used to offset the cost of this airport. Todays economy, with a loss of jobs, people hurting financially are not able to pay for your hobby any longer. Hanger rents should have raised higher than what they are, landing and take-off fees should apply and their should be an annual maintenance fee.
Simple questions to ask you selfish, biased, non resident pilots. I mean if you want the support to keep the airport open its simple. #1) Prove that the airport has ever been profitable? #2) Prove that business is actually coming to this town because of the airport? #3) Prove that residents of this town will not have to offset the cost any longer on this airport? #4) Show how this airport has had any growth over the last two decades and how that growth has benefitted the City of St.Clair?
It's very simple to do according to what you pilots have been saying, writting and sending out. Show this to the City of St.Clair and your airport will be saved............ 6 months ago
Somebody brought up a good point, the AirVac rent was not raised while the other hanger rent was raised. I would think that the city should actually drop if not completely get rid of the AirVac rent altogether. If we as citizens are going to carry the tenants of this airport for as long as we have by paying all the fee's their little bit of rent never could, then we should let AirVac stay rent free. The big difference here is that AirVac actually provides a service to this city as well as to the area. For the short time that they have been over there, they have proven that the service they provide is golden, yes I repeat a true asset to this area. Now on the other hand the airport with its few hobbist pilots have been over there for decades and to this day can not get enough generated money together to even pay the bare minumum in its monthly bills. yet the city has carried them this entire time, it is not an asset, never has been and never will be. the city suffers from these selfish, biased, non resident, hobbist at best pilots. Seriously, think about it, every time you look over there its a plane taking off and landing. Its always the same few planes, they make a circle and they land, then they take off again. Never ever bringing anything to the city or community as for as business or revenue is concerned. They raised the hanger rent which was awesome, even though it still was not high enough. Now they need to implement a take-off and landing fee, watch the revenue go up every time that same circling plane does............Beautiful idea, thought of it myself! 6 months ago
Finally the rent gets raised and some of the cost will go back to the pilots who use this dilapidated airport instead of the citizens who do not use it and want it gone. I think the rent should have been upward of the $450. to $500. dollar mark. Hopefully it won't matter much longer and the airport will be the new BIg Box shopping center, with restaurants, shoe stores, clothing stores, hardware stores with great prices, jobs for a lot of the area citizens and a place one can be proud to call their home town. Good job city administration, keep up the good work! 6 months ago
crazywashington, I will keep my name the same, because you can not obviously write, read your sentences below before you try to be a critic of someone else in the grammer department. That being said, Im glad you are voting "NO". 7 months ago
washmo and liberal mom just dont get it, Washmo listen to the facts and stop bashing because you do not like smokers or have to much money. Simply put if you want to pay more taxes, and want the goverment making all of your decisions then sign your self away to them. because with this proposition that is exactly what you are doing. You say you dont smoke, eat junk food are any of those bad things. Fact is it doesnt matter if you do are not, because you pay regardless. Think about your property taxes, sales taxes, etc. The goverment is taking it from you now and is looking at other ways as well. Proposition B is just another way. You said your health insurance cost you more, but you dont smoke.....You are still paying higher premiums than you were 4 years ago and will be paying even more again in another 4 years. Its dumb voters who don't read the through the issues such as your self that would agree to pay even more in taxes regardless of the issue. Stupidity should have a tax as well, then I would be paying for you to vote. Also I dont smoke either, just not stupid.......... 7 months ago
I'm not a smoker and rarely ever drink, I say "NO to Proposition B". This is nothing more than a gimmick to get more money. True fact, this has been going on every election for the past twenty years, they drain companies such as cigarette manufactures, who actually produce a legal product. Yes, a legal product of which they pay huge taxes already to even be able to produce. The fact is, milk is a legal product what if they did the same to milk as they are trying to do and have been doing to cigarettes?
I don't like it when we target companies because we know they make huge profits. Its a America and we are all allowed to make profits. If anyone should be paying more it should be the smokers paying more for their health insurance since they know smoking causes health issues. Think about it a lot of people are hurt are killed in automobile accidents, so should they raise cars 600%-700%, alot of people are injured, hurt are killed in house fires and floods. Should houses go up 600%-700%. It would not be ethical, nor is it really ethical to do this to cigarette companies either. 7 months ago
I will vote against Proposition B, I'm not a smoker and never have been. The truth is that cigarettes do cause illnesses and diseases, but so do a lot of other things. As a an American I'm free to choose to walk away from a smokers area, just as they are free to walk away from my clean breathing space, mutual respect really. The harsh fact is that this Proposition B is only going to help the politicians and no one else. They use these lines against tobacco and alcohol companies to make voters think they are really doing something ethical, this is as far from the truth as can be. Think about how long they have been doing this same thing and for how many years and who has actually benefitted from it.
Again I don't smoke and hardly ever drink, but they have ripped these companies off enough. So much that they have taken their name off of NASCAR, penelized them harshly and whether you smoke or not, these are legal companies paying huges taxes just to stay in business. Again this is a legal product. What if they did this to the diary companies in this country?? If any one should be paying more it should be the smokers paying more for their health insurance. Not the cigarette companies or the people who don't smoke. NO to Proposition B!7 months ago
