Personal property taxes are a crock anyway you look at it, we have to pay taxes on what ever we buy when we buy it, then we are penalized each year for keeping it. It is not right to continue to tax people for something they already paid taxes on. Its just another scam by the government to pay their salary, and justify their jobs which are not needed. I know the taxes are suposed to go to schools, roads ect, but really folks do you believe its fair?5 months ago
What if he was drawing the gun to throw it down? Do they think its right to shoot first and ask questions later? They should have waited to see his intentions before opening fire. Open carry IS legal in Missouri, so we should have at least seen what his intentions were. 8 months ago

Hopefully the new hangar will be named after long time airport manager Carl Cochran who passed away this past January. It would be a fitting memorial to a man who devoted so much time and personal funds to the airport.8 months ago
I'm not bashing our law enforcment officers at all, just wondering why they have to wait so long when they have enough evidence to jusitfy an arrest. Our prosecuter has to step up to the plate and quit plea bargining with these offenders and put them away instead of letting them return to what they were doing. The article states they were known from previous cases, I stand behind our law enforcment officers fully, but I think they're hands are tied when the offenders are released to continue their ways, and they have to start over again. And I TOTALLY dissagree with having camara crews filming this problem for broadcast on national TV. Its bad enough they already ran "A county in crisis" in the past, now they want to show the country we haven't gotten any better. I'm a lifelong resident of Franklin county, and this is an embarassment to the whole county as it is, Keep busting and prosecuting and then film a show on how we have improved over where we were instead of showing we can't seem to stop the problem. I don't mean to offend, this is just my personal opnion. I fully support the Task force and thank them for their hard work, and I know we can clean up this problem, 9 months ago
@Jane22, did you skip the first paragraph? It does NOT take a month to gather enough evidence for an arrest to be made on these cases, as long as Parks will prosecute the offenders its all good9 months ago
they waited a month so they could have the TV crews on hand to film the "bust" instead of making or area safer as soon as they had enough evidence to go forward. Lemme guess, the county is gonna make money on the filming of this and coming bust in front of the camara. How many indictments did the grand jury hand down, yet not 1 warrant has been served? Are they waiting for the camara crews? I have the upmost respect for our narcotic enforcment unit, but get with the program and do the job, don't worry about the camara crews. I personally think the filming they're doing is just gonna make Franklin county look bad to the rest of the nation, and should not be shown on TV. 9 months ago
How about an assessor who knows what they are doing, I have never heard of property going down in value, thats why my taxes are so outrageous now and will only get worse, I bet mr Copelands realeatate is undervalued as are most sitting officials here in the county. They don't have to worry about it. In 9 years my taxes have gone fron $810 per yr to $2400, why? its the same property, no new buildings ect, just more taxes. Almost makes me wish I was renter11 months ago
The main reason for the check points is to generate revenue, not prevent accidents. the article says 25% of all fatal accidents are alcohol related, what about the other 75%. If they would focus more on solving homicides, burglay, assults, ect. they would not make as much revenue. Money makes the world go round, and this is how they make money. They do not care about our 4th amendment rights, they care about the bottom line. Look out for what they will come up with next. Law enforcements motto used to be "to serve and protect". I do not believe this is how they see it now. I agree with Comrade Bob on his post here, where is the legal probable cause to stopping every vehicle? Just because there was a drunk here before? Get serious. I have friends and relatives who are law enforcment officers, some hi ranking, and they don't agree with check points, but admit the revenue is very lucrative. Spend time on other crimes, not just DWI's, speeding, and drugs. there are other crimes that happen daily, spend as much time on them as the crimes that bring in the big fines!!!11 months ago
