It is quite possible that not one of you has attended a commission meeting. If you call praying for the Cardinals to win, praying for rain, and any other mundane crazy reason to have a prayer, asking God for the wisdom and guidance in the deliberations they were about to undertake, then we are paying the commission way too much money for the job they are doing. There is a time for prayer and there is a time for work. I choose to pray on my own time. Lets Move on. 10 months ago
Thank you for your well spoken article. It is a terrible shame that we have to live wondering everyday if the air we breath will end up killing us. We deserve clean air and water. It was here before the power plants and the lobbyists. Why can't they just do it right? 10 months ago
Thank you Missourian for your very Fair interest in your community. This information has been in the forefront of our community for three years. All of this information has been brought forth by over 500 hundred people, including experts in this field, over the last three years from our fellow Franklin county residents. It is so nice to finally see it in print. Maybe there is still time for our County Commissioners ( John Greisheimer and Terry Wilson) to rescind their decision on this Landfill they so casually passed to accommodate Ameren. Maybe now they will see the light. Ameren is NOT a good neighbor. Shut down the Landfill before it is too late and there are even more deaths . This time , it will be because of ruined water supply. WE CAN'T TRUST AMEREN.10 months ago
It can not come as a surprise to the Missourian that this letter would receive some rebuttal. Hopefully, everybody's opinion is worth printing. I respectfully disagree with the analysis of Mr. Jarvis on Mr. Griesheimer's behavior as a county commissioner. His job and his oath were to protect his Constituents , and to implement decisions in the best interest of the people. Clearly, that was not done in the Landfill issue. We had no provisions for Landfills in our code previously to Ameren needing this change. Now, Franklin County is vulnerable to landfill of all kinds anywhere in the County just so Ameren could put a Landfill in a Flood plane. Testimony was given by expert after expert as to the ridiculousness of this application. The Landfill is located in a seismic area , a flood plane , and the contents will be hazardous to the water supply both upstream and down.. It will cause flooding upstream because it is being put in a flood way. The list goes on. I have to disagree with the Author of this Editorial because Mr.Griesheimer said before he even heard the testimony from all the experts and the 2000 constituents against this, that he had already "made up his mind". This was written in the Missourian after an interview with John. His educational background did not qualify him to" make up his mind ",before hearing testimony and changing all of Franklin Co. Giving a blank check permitted use to Permit to Ameren was against everything he was taught by the Experts. He refused to allow a Committee of informed persons to help him in his decision. Everyone has wondered why. This evil deed is done FOR Now. Because of his lack of reasoning, the county is now being sued. The county is broke. I think his time as a representative should be coming to an end. After all the years of service,he needs to retire. Clearly he is not working for the good of the People. If anyone reading this needs confirmation of any of this, please read the articles in the Missourian for the past two years. It is all there. Thank you Missourian for being an equal opportunity paper. Every opinion counts. Jan 8, 2012
Thanks you Mr. Meyer for that eye opening piece of information. Whats new? It seems that this is just another big chip off that ice burg to cause us all to worry about the extreme condition and fragility of the Government we are all counting on. We should be able to elect someone to handle our affairs of state and trust them . I think those days are over. The next generation needs to step up and really get the house cleaning done. It Seems that Katherine is the one needing the chill pill. If we all knew your name, we might be able to understand why you seem so distressed about the comments made against our commission and Mr Vincent. It is apparent you have not done your homework on this commission. There has been a Landfill issue that has brought less than honorable results for our poor county. If you had been present for this debacle, you would have gotten a front row seat to witness Mr. Vincent and our Commission going against everything their constituents want for our county. The question has always been WHY? There were over 2000 signatures against this terrible decision and yet, the commission voted it in anyway. It was not in the best interest on Franklin County.Their job is to protect the best interest on their constituents. So , before you get angry with some of these people, You should attend a few Commission Meetings. You might actually learn something about this county and how it is run.Jan 4, 2012
Thank you Madeline, for your amazingly well researched article. This county really needed to read this. We have people that do not believe this to be true. I hope your well intentioned article hits them between the eyes. We all need to pound Ameren to get going on this and not wait till the last minute to implement this necessary safety measure that we all deserve. Thank you again.Jan 4, 2012
Is the price of Change worth the health of the children that are going to lead our country someday? I say YES .Divided between every user, the price will be negligible. Don't fall for propaganda that says otherwise. If the Labadie plant closes, the people that work there will be trained to work at the new and healthier facility. There will be no job losses. Everybody will win. Especially the children. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A CHILD WITH ASTHMA?Dec 28, 2011
This county commission , unfortunately, is not working for the public to protect and honor their wishes. The county's duty is to ask for resumes from any and all qualified people that would like to apply for this job and then bring it to the meeting to ask for approval from the public. If you do not show up at the meeting to have your say, then the commission votes according to what they want. Of course the meetings are at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning which makes it impossible for the public to attend these meetings. This way, the commission gets to pass everything they want. If we need to pay our taxes, the Commission should listen to the public. They Don't. It is very unfortunate that at this level of Government, we have to worry about the 'Why is Mr. Vincent getting this extremely high paying job when the county is out of money", problem. Thanks you for you letter. Hopefully it will open some eyes.Dec 28, 2011
