if you look at the headline, it stated "missourian" not missouri. Meaning the papers coverage area.8 months ago
this is what I don't get. Dr. VanLeer stated a couple of months ago, that this area is unique that it has more kids in private schools then in most areas. I think she gave a number like 30% compared to like 10% in most areas. Well all that tells us is that this high school unlike most areas, gets more tax money from people who don't send their kids to the public schools, then in other areas. Could it be that this school district has always taken advantage of that, and spent money not as wise as they should have? 8 months ago
If i remember right there were around 300 kids in my grad in the 80's at WHS. Now the enrollment is 1379. That doesn't seem like a mass increase over 30 years. With the Voc building being moved and the other additions, what happend. I think people have voted no because of the past decisions that have been made, which i agree with. Why wasn't the money for the land we bought used for immediate purposes and not the future. And now it sits there, nothing. But people are right. Education begins at home. We already spend right up there the same amount per student as othe areas. BUT THANK GOD this area has such a large religious based elementary and high school participation, larger then most rural areas. Just think if the Arch Diocese would all of a suddent close all these schools. What holds any of you back from donating to a fund to help your schools. Private school parents pay their taxes and elect to still put up to $6000 a YEAR towards their kids education. Why don't you all set maybe your priorities up that you are going to start giving a certain amount each year to your school district? Is it maybe because you don't have faith in how they will spend that money? But if you can only give $500 a year do it. I know many well off parents who send their kids to WSH, and make more then those who send their kids to SFB and spend a $5000 a year for their tuition. Start a fund drive. Is there a bond measure out there that will allow you to tax only if you don't send your child to a private school? Check into it. And all I hear is that ,"yeah well sending your child to a private school is your choice." Well, voting is a choice too, so don't by hypocritical when that "choice" doesn't turn out in your favor. if your so interested in spending money on filing a lawsuit..why don't you file it against warren county on forcing their hand to fix it. Has anyone investigated whether Warren county recieved any money from the 93 flood from fema or what have it to fix this road. If they did include that in the list of federal disaster fund which the area was label as, what did they use that money for then? I also suppose it was soon forgotten last year when a portion of hwy 47 was closed from dutzow to washington, that the only access for emergency purposes was through that one road.Feb 29, 2012
this is a topic that I wish the Missourian would allow us to have a discussion on. I know this is a small community and we don't like disruptive things..but Patients First brought that on when they all decided to move out of Mercy. When many of us have had so many memories in that hopsital..good and bad they elected to distance themselve from Mercy given many of us patients to make a difficult choice on deciding whether to stay with our current physician who we like..or back a hospital that we were born in..seen loved ones be sick in....and unfortunately sharing the last minutes of our loved ones life in. Many of the physicians with the original group of patients first..don't have those lifetime memories with the hospital, and their upbringing isn't from this area, so I don't believe they would truely know the sentimental emotion we have with the hospital. I hope so bad these two organizations can come to an agreement and bring this community back together. Patients first brought this CEO in from another city to lead them in a certain direction. That direction in my eyes was a mistake from the beginning, and saw this all coming down. I think letting this CEO was definitely the best first step of the process.Feb 8, 2012
