I drive the roundabout at least twice a day and for the most part there haven't been any issues. The only issues that I have encountered were teenagers speeding through doing multiple loops and almost losing control of their cars. I think if there was some police presence there it would stop that. There is a roundabout in St. Charles and in my years of living there, I didn't know of any accidents at the location.9 months ago
So are they saying that overseeing facilities is similar to developing and implementing curriculum? Good luck finding someone with as diverse qualifications as that. Lets be honest though, Steve Bryant already has the job filled and his buddy only has to wait until the make it look like they have fairly interviewed other people to get his $$$.May 5, 2012
This proposal is such a train wreck although technically it isn't a proposal anymore because it is a position that is now listed in Union's employment listings. Bryant's idea to add a new position to a superintendent's office that is already dysfunctional is absurd. Instead of adding a new assistant superintendent position and making this school district ridiculously "top loaded", the school board and people in power positions should use the money to provide meaningful professional development for teachers, end the pay freeze, update technology resources for teachers and students or even make new teaching positions to alleviate the class sizes (some are almost at 30 students per 1 teacher). In fact for this one position that will be paid $85,000+, the school district could easily add three teaching positions.
I have friends and family that work for the school district and up to last week they didn't know how much they were going to be paid next year because the school board and superintendents were "concerned" about next year's budget. Then they hear about this insane new position. Trust me there are a lot of disgruntled employees within the district. I do not know who BeaufortDad is, but I have heard exactly what he was commenting about from multiple people. They all think that Mr. Bryant has an old buddy from Salem that needs a job. What does that say about a person in power when their own employees do not trust them?
His reasoning that Union needs another assistant superintendent "because Pacific and Sullivan have it" not only makes him sound like a child, but it also makes it sound like he has not done his research on those school districts. Sullivan alone pays their teachers more than Union, but it also has smaller classrooms, updated technology, professional development resources and their teachers are not on a pay freeze. They obviously have the stuff together unlike Union which seems to think that indiscriminately throwing money at the problem will fix it.
Instead of adding even more positions in an already overly bureaucratic office, restructure the other two assistant superintendents to have a meaningful role in the schools. It is time that Mr. Bryant puts the students first and it is time that the school board stop blindly following whatever Mr. Bryant's agenda is.
Union Parents wake up and realize that your child's needs are not first in this school regime's agenda and stand up, because at the moment teachers are not being listened to and your tax money is being blatantly misspent.

Why does it require a bill to change the parking? It just seems silly. I live in Nieve's district and I think we have other MAJOR issues here that he needs to be focused on besides continuing his fight with the press. I think it is an "absolute joke" that he must propose two bills to get this passed. Bureaucracy at it's best. Just add more parking and move the press' spots further back. Problem solved and it didn't require a bill to be passed or any big speeches.Jan 25, 2012
The title is VERY misleading. It sounds as if something happened on school grounds or with a student. These guys messed up and from what they told police, it sounds as if the woman could not give consent. That does make her a victim whether she was drunk or drugged. I was shocked when I heard who was involved in this incident because both of these men are good men. Unfortunately their horrible decision and their drunken reactions have hurt not only themselves, but also their families. Don't forget the families are also made victims by their actions. It is a small town and lets try not to hurt the families anymore than they have been. The men did own up to their actions when it sounds like they could have just denied it and possibly gotten away with it. Jun 3, 2011
