Delve into the history of marriage and one would see that originally it was a contract which gave a man possession of a woman as if she were some form of chattel. There was nothing lovey-dovey about that arrangement.
In today's world, people tend to look upon marriage as a religious rite sanctioned and performed by the church. A marriage license issued by the government is a legal document which acknowledges the marriage and gives certain marriage partners legal rights should the marriage fail.
Who gets to marry whom is neither the church's nor the government's business, as I see it. 12 months ago
I agree that Obama is after the gay vote. I don't trust him. Regarding your statement about the animal kingdom, there are over 450 species of animals which engage in homosextuality activities. Perhaps Zoology courses weren't offered at your college.12 months ago
Our founding fathers were largely Deists or atheists. Christianity didn't rise to prominence in the U.S. until the 1800's.Apr 12, 2012

Gee, I don't know what to think about abortion. It is difficult for me to place my mindset in that of a woman considering it. In the early Judeo-Christian days, abortion was commonplace. However, if a person harmed a pregnant woman in giving her an abortion,, then he/she would be punished. Later, it was decided that there should be no abortions after forty days of pregnancy. Then the church realized that it could increase its membership by declaring abortions sinful. They sold that idea to women by inventing the soul, which they said begins at birth. But when an egg cell separates and becomes twins, where does the other soul come from? And occasionally, a separated egg reunites and becomes one again. So where does the leftover soul go? Does the baby then have two souls? Questions, questions. And if life begins at conception, then why aren't the unborn counted in the census, and why can't it be given its own Social Security number? So much to think about. Jul 20, 2011
Ma'am, I'm glad that you are still learning. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were not Christians. Many were atheists, others were Deists. And by the way, Sin is an invention of the Church, as it is with heaven and " h.e. double toothpicks" (the censor strikes again). All were religious inventions intended to control the ignorant masses. Please step back and gain a little perspective on the beliefs you hold. If there really was a jesus, he would not have looked like the white anglo-saxon depicted in all the paintings beginning during the Renaissance. Jews of 2000 years ago were short, dark and were clean-shaven according to Jewish laws. Imagine a black Danny DeVito. Have you ever thought to consider that for eighty years, you may have been betting on the wrong horse? I didn't think so..... Jul 15, 2011
Mrs. Stumpe, I remember you as my teacher. You were strict. I didn't like you. But I remember one time when our school's ball team was playing another school's team, and the umpire made a bad call, and you ran out on the field, flaying your arms and you gave him "whatfor". He changed his call, and I changed my mind about you. From then on, you were my favorite teacher... Jun 29, 2011
