Thank you Missourian for you common sense approach to this matter. Aug 14, 2012
I just hope that when the master plan is presented that the county specifically details how it took the citizens comments (the survey; the meetings etc) into consideration and just not gloss over these citizen inputs. May 10, 2012
I read the commissioners' rhetoric in the story. I hope they are not trying to absolve themselves of any liability. My question: What were they doing while "Rome burned" ?Feb 17, 2012
I agree with Claire and the Missourian that the nation needs a long term energy focus. Unfortunately, if you think Congress is useless in solving our budget deficit, we have seen they are equally useless in coming up with a long term energy solution.
Claire McCaskill, by going against not only her party but what should be a coalless energy future (really we can't ignore what is happening both here in our country and abroad), is doing no one any favors. Should everyone suffer so that Missouri maintains low cost electric rates?
I would rather she take a stand against the foul carbon emissions now than have our children and grandchildren pay the price in the future not only in energy costs but also in health and environmental cleanup costs. Jan 9, 2012
Katherine should also back her statements with actual facts. How has she determined that those defending their positions are vocal "minorities". Has she taken a statistical sampling or poll? Her comment is only an assumption at best i.e it could be, and maybe is, a vocal majority defending their position.Jan 2, 2012

It's cheaper for Ameren to appear to be the good corporate citizen by making its donations to the United Way and Mercy Hospital than to fix the pollution at their Labadie power plant. It's called pulling the wool over the citizens' eyes.Nov 28, 2011
Does the Missourian also believe in the tooth fairy? If what the Missourian espouses is true, there was only a need for a conditional use permit. However, your paper continues to miss the mark. No landfill needs to br put in a flood plain.Nov 23, 2011
To quote Salman Rushdie:
"What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist." Nov 23, 2011
Tp paraphrase Ronald Reagan, "there they go again". You just don't know where to start. Well, here goes. Mr Wilson and Ms Schroeder, I guess you are talking about the Labadie Environmental Association when you speak of the opposing group. Well, not everyone who is against the landfill is a member of LEO. A lot of us just think putting a coal ash landfill in a floodplain is a bad idea. I would venture that there are a lot more persons outside the LEO group opposed to the landfill than those who are actually members. The LEO group gave us a voice and we are grateful.
