About:
I used to be a proofreader at the Missourian. Now I drive a school bus. So I will be checking the spelling on the articles just to stay in practice. Hello Missourian Staff!
I'm going out on a limb here.....I drive a school bus and I know bullying is taking place on there. I write up students and all they get is a lecture or lunch detention. This is NOT helping the situation at all. If the school has a no tolerance policy on bullying then students should be removed from the bus in increasing days after each write up until they stop that behavior.
I love my job on most days but trying to handle discipline and traffic does not always mix well.
Thanks for listening! Drive safely!5 months ago
Keep up the good work! Get those labs off the streets and out of our neighborhoods! We want these people prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The general public wants our children to be free of this nightmare called "meth" and we as parents should do everything we can to help too! Thanks for listening.Feb 14, 2012
So glad no children were on board at the time of the accident. But please let this stand as a reminder for people to pay attention when a school bus is near!Jan 28, 2012
Thankful no children were on this bus. Jan 27, 2012
Thank you Chris for recognizing the importance of our job. I, for one, certainly take my job very seriously and completely understand the responsibilities I have on that bus.
Thanks again!Jan 26, 2012
NO, it is not permissible for First Student drivers to use cell phones of any kind while driving. It has been their policy for at least 4 years that I know of, that the use of cell phones while driving would not be allowed at all. I was saying in my earlier comment that I never used my cell phone while driving a bus, not because it WAS AGAINST COMPANY POLICY but because it is just too dangerous due to being distracted. I have driven a school bus off and on for about 10 years now for three different companies and have learned many defensive driving skills to avoid accidents. HOWEVER, now it is a state law, not just a company policy, that makes it illegal for all CDL drivers to use a handheld cell phone while driving a company vehicle, which includes truck drivers as well as school bus drivers. Hope this clears up the confusion.
Now if you see one of our buses parked in a "safe" area and the driver is using a cell phone it is probably because dispatch has asked us to pull over and use our cell phone for required better & clearer communication than what we get on our two-way radios in certain areas where we drive.
Thanks for your concern Hans.Jan 26, 2012
Not sure about this plan of theirs. I think our local JCP needs to have more room between the racks so we can actually shop the racks. That would probably increase sales right there! I hope they don't do away with some of the brands & sizes they currently carry. It's the only place local I can find jeans to fit my daughter. I agree that their pricing needs to be much lower on some items though. Great idea to have Ellen as their spokesperson.....she is hilarious and communicates well with people of all ages.

Thank you to the Missourian for publishing my letter. I hope it helps bring awareness to an important safety issue. I also wanted to comment on a new law that went in to effect in January, 2012. It is now against the law for a CDL driver to drive a company vehicle while using a hand held cell phone. I am so happy they passed this law. I recently made a vow not to use my cell phone in my personal vehicle as well. I have always thought that it was a dangerous idea, but I too have made the mistake of using it while driving my car. I never used it while driving my bus, not because it was against company rules but because it was just not a wise choice for safety reasons. I for one, am hoping they will pass a law for ALL drivers to refrain from using cell phones while driving ANY vehicle. Thanks for listening!Jan 22, 2012
I am so glad this man is locked up! I remember hearing the breaking news on the radio in the car. I was so shocked that Shawn was found with Ben. I watched everything on TV about them because I was just so surprised at the happy ending of this horrible ordeal. I pray they are doing well at home with their families.Jan 12, 2012
So glad to hear nobody was injured. Thanks to all firefighters who responded! You are appreciated.Dec 23, 2011
