UPDATE: Catawissa Woman Killed on I-44 Near Gray Summit

A Catawissa woman was killed Tuesday night when she was struck by a tractor-trailer while she was on foot on Interstate 44.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary report, Malinda S. Lyman, 53,

was on foot at the 252.2 mile marker near a 1994 Ford F-250 that was partially blocking I-44 at 11:35 p.m.

A 2017 Volvo tractor-trailer driven westbound on I-44 by Hubert E. Newton, 66, Bardwell Ken. swerved to avoid the pickup, but struck the vehicle and then struck Lyman, the patrol said.

The tractor-trailer overturned and was struck by a 2018 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Robert J. Mulcahey, 26, Los Angeles, Calif.

Lyman was pronounced dead at the scene by Meramec Ambulance. Her body was taken to the St. Louis County Morgue by Russell Colonial Funeral Home.

Newton was taken to Mercy Hospital Washington by Meramec Ambulance.

All lanes of westbound I-44 at Gray Summit were closed for several hours overnight and into Wednesday morning.
