Three people were killed Sunday morning in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 44.

According to the Missouri State Highway patrol crash report, Robert S. Batson, 26, Sullivan; Sushma Settipallli, 32, Plano, Texas; and Mahidhar Settipalli, 2, Plano, Texas; were killed in the crash. Five others were injured.

Batson was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-44 when the front left corner of his vehicle struck the left front corner of the second vehicle, which was driven by Sushma Settipalli. Batson’s vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and came to rest in the median cables. Settipalli’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and came to rest.

All of the deceased subjects were pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

The rest of the injured were taken to Mercy Hospital Washington by various local ambulance personnel.

They included Chinmayee Gullapalli, 23, Atlanta, Ga., listed with moderate injuries; Tagore Gullapalli, 21, Plano, Texas, listed with minor injuries; Keerthana Settipalli, age unknown, Plano, Texas, listed with serious injuries; Ratnakur Settipalli, 39, Plano, Texas, listed with serious injuries; and Vaishnovi Yerneni, 22, Houston, Texas, listed with moderate injuries.

The crash occurred Sunday, Nov. 27, just after 3:45 a.m. on westbound I-44 near the 236-mile marker.
