With two wrestlers qualifying for the championship match in their weight classes, the Lady Jays wrestled their way into the top 10 Friday.

Washington took ninth place at the Mehlville Girls Tournament with a combined total of 77 points.

Buffalo captured the team championship with 135 points. Other teams in the top 10 included McCluer North (133), Lafayette (128.5), St. Charles (114), Northwest (103), Rockwood Summit (97), Park Hills Central (81), Mehlville (79) and Collinsville (Ill., 71).

Other teams with varsity scores at the event included De Soto (67.5), Hickman (59), Battle (58), Hancock (56), Fulton (53), St. Clair (45), Lindbergh (40), Fox (34), Parkway West (31), Windsor (29), Hillsboro (25), Oakville (16) and Webster Groves (10).

Mia Reed (110 pounds) and McKenna Deckelman (131) had the most success for the Lady Jays.

Reed won two preliminary bouts by pin, defeating Kiernan Sutton (St. Charles, 0:49) and Avary Gray (Park Hills Central, 4:36).

In the quarterfinals, she pinned Paris Ciasby (Buffalo, 1:42) and then pinned Reilly Baughman (Windsor, 1:40) in the semifinals.

Lafayette’s undefeated Faith Cole scored a pin against Reed in the second round of the championship match.

At 131 pounds, Deckelman was 1-1 in preliminary matches. She pinned Melissa Dizderevic (Rockwood Summit, 1:14), but was pinned by DeSmet’s Hunter Bullock.

Deckelman scored two more victories by pin in the brackets, topping Olivia Schiffer (St. Charles, 1:43) in the quarterfinals and Kayla Davis (McCluer North, 0:50) in the semifinals.

Bullock again pinned Deckelman in the championship match to win the individual title.

Allison Meyer (121), Courtney McEwan (167) and Elizabeth Brown (235) each finished sixth for the Lady Jays.

Meyer split her preliminary round matches, pinning Emily Liu (Lafayette, 4:26), but losing by pin to Paige Folkner (McCluer North).

In the brackets, Meyer was pinned by Caitlyn Thorne (St. Charles) in the quarterfinals.

Meyer won by pin in 2:17 against Kenzie Branch (Park Hills Central) in the consolation semifinals.

Paige Wehmeister (Parkway West) won an 11-4 decision against Meyer in the fifth-place match.

At 167 pounds, McEwen pinned Keigan Newhouse (Northwest, 2:58), but was pinned by Lebria Cook (Hickman) in the prelims.

Undefeated top seed Jaycee Foeller (DeSmet) won by pin against McEwen in the quarterfinals.

McEwen then won a 6-3 decision against Madison Oellermann (St. Charles) to reach the consolation final.

Cook again got the better of McEwen by pin to win fifth place.

Brown lost by pin in her only preliminary round match against Northwest’s Macie Twine. Honalee Hunt scored the pin against Brown in the quarterfinals.

Brown rebounded to pin Hillsboro’s Marissa Hudman in 1:40 of the consolation semifinals.

Twine again scored the win by pin against Brown in the fifth-place match.

The Lady Jays are next scheduled to wrestle Jan. 5 in the Wonder Woman Tournament held in Columbia.
