Washington 45, Smith-Cotton 14
Washington used a solid ground attack to knock Smith-Cotton from the Class 5 state playoffs.
Playing in the opening round of Class 5 District 4 football action Friday at Washington High School, the third-seeded Blue Jays ran over sixth-seeded Smith Cotton, 45-14.
Washington (6-4) travels to Camdenton to face the second-seeded Lakers (6-3) in the district semifinals Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Top-seeded Lebanon (8-1) hosts fifth-seeded Rolla (2-8) in the other semifinal contest.
Lebanon and Camdenton received first-round byes. Rolla won Friday at Waynesville, 34-6.
The district title game is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 5.
All six of Washington’s touchdowns against Smith-Cotton came on the ground.
The Blue Jays had three running backs rush for over 100 yards.
Kyle Summers carried the ball nine times for 102 yards and scored four touchdowns.
Max Phinney rushed for 104 yards on eight attempts.
Randall Flotte carried the ball five times for 104 yards and scored one touchdown.
Caleb Curran rushed for 85 yards on 12 attempts.
Quarterback Luke Hasenjaeger was 10-18 passing for 96 yards.
Brock Hopkins had five catches for 45 yards.
Summers scored on touchdown runs of 6, 8, 6 and 44 yards.
Flotte added a 73-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the first half to give the Blue Jays a 21-7 halftime lead.
Dilan Bollmann had a 12-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Smith-Cotton (2-8) scored its touchdowns on runs of 15 and 14 yards by Chance McMullin.
