Competing Monday in Wildwood, the Washington Swim Team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 274-257 win over Cherry Hills.

“The meet against The Village of Cherry Hills was very close,” Washington Head Coach Tracy Moreland said. “Scores were announced several times during the meet and the lead was always changing. Much like our meet against Pacific, the results could have gone either way. This time we took home the win.”

Washington completes the Gateway Swimming and Diving League Spitz Division dual meet season at Oaks Landing Monday. The division championship meet will be held in Pacific Saturday, July 14.

Against Cherry Hills, Washington was able to forge ahead on the girls side, outscoring the host team by a 148-122 margin. On the boys side, Cherry Hills outscored Washington, 135-126.

The meet opened with individual medley races.

Washington’s winners were Isabella Richardson, Matthew Tchiblakian and Mason Kauffeld.

Second-place Stingrays were Mia Klak, Eva Gaugh, Zach Posinski, McKenzie Dohm and Ethan Beers.

Taking third for Washington were Ava Kauffeld, Donovan McKenzie, Ava Mohart and Jack Courtney.

In the freestyle races, Washington’s winners in scoring races were John Hartung, Faith Rufkahr, Spencer Coates and Andrew Simily.

Moving to the breaststroke, Washington’s winning swimmers were Harry Benhardt, Isabella Richardson, Matthew Tchiblakian, Ava Kauffeld, Abby Loesing, Spencer Coates, Maddy Tchiblakian and Mason Kauffeld.

In the freestyle relay event, Washington’s winning teams were:

• Girls 9-10 team of Alessandra Ayala Hernandez, Brooke Schoonover, Mia Klak and Faith Rufkahr;

• Girls 13-14 team of Abby Loesing, Cecelia Kopp, Eva Gaugh and Ava Mohart;

• Boys 13-14 team of Zach Posinski, Connor Smith, Gavin Poole and Spencer Coates; and

• Boys 15-18 team of Mason Kauffeld, Ethan Beers, Ryan Coates and Andrew Simily.

Moving to the backstroke races, Washington’s winners were Finley Beste, Alessandra Ayala Hernandez, Zoe Ziegler, Zach Posinski, Aubrie Moreland and Andrew Simily.

In the butterfly event, Washington’s winners were John Hartung, Faith Rufkahr, Eva Gaugh, Spencer Coates and Andrew Simily.

Medley relay races finished out the meet. Washington’s winners were:

• Girls 11-12 team of Bella Hartung, Ava Kauffeld, Zoey Ziegler and Jade Jennings;
