Washington soccer (5-5) moved one step closer to the championship round at the Hillsboro Tournament and ensured itself a place in at least the third-place game with an 8-0 win against Festus (2-7) Wednesday.
The win came in the second round of pool play, leaving just one last pool match with SLUH’s junior varsity to determine who advances to the championship game and who plays for third place. Both final games will be played Saturday.
It was the second combined shutout of the tournament for Washington’s goalkeeper tandem of Christian Longseth and Ottmar Escalante, and much like against De Soto on Monday, neither had to make a save in the contest.
Conlan Jarvis led Washington with two goals and two assists.
Jeremiah Collins notched his fourth goal of the tournament after scoring a hat trick in the first round of pool play.
Also netting goals for the Jays were Noah Bay, Andrew Eckelkamp, Jake Fregalette, Jared Lopez and Chase Hall.
Fregalette and Marcus Berariu each added an assist.
