Expect a bigger and better Union Wrestling Tournament for 2017.

This year’s event, which will be held Saturday starting at 9 a.m., has grown to 17 teams, including area squads St. Clair, Borgia and Union.

Other squads of many classes are coming from different parts of the state.

Schools slated to attend are Blair Oaks, Branson, Brentwood, O’Fallon Christian, Hancock, Logan-Rogersville, Marquette, Marshfield, McCluer, Mexico, Northwest, St. Clair, Ste. Genevieve, Borgia, Troy, Union and Holt.

The tournament will be run with 16-wrestler brackets, but will not have a full wrestleback to keep wrestlers at a maximum of five matches for the day.

Awards will be given to the top three teams as well as the top four wrestlers in each weight class.

The meet is expected to run most of the day Saturday.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
