Gearing up for the stretch run, the Union wrestling Wildcats placed fourth in the 21-team Bob Georger Classic in De Soto.

Union scored 136 points to finish behind De Soto (207), Hillsboro (155.5) and Poplar Bluff (149).

North County was a half-point behind the Wildcats while Sullivan was sixth at 124 points. Rounding out the top 10 were Ft. Zumwalt East (115), Parkway West (94), Wentzville Liberty (89.5) and Webster Groves (79).

The Wildcats had two champions with David Clark (195) and Haiden Meyer (220) each winning their weight classes.

Ryder Kuenzel (170) placed third while Sam Inman (106) was fourth. Dylan Stalcup (113) and Connor Ward (285) each were sixth.

Clark won two of his three bouts by pins, taking out Jaden Lawson of Lexington in 0:25 and Chase Greenlee in 1:34. In the title match, he defeated Max Reed of Webster Groves by medical forfeit.

Meyer, who improved to 26-1, opened with a 1:01 pin against Ft. Zumwalt East’s Daniel Hopkins. He then took a medical forfeit over Wentzville Liberty’s Ben Adelsberger.

In the title bout, Meyer pinned Hillsboro’s Jordan Cage in 0:38.

Kuenzel opened with two wins, a pin against Edward Suber of Webster Groves in 4:35 and an 8-4 decision over Ft. Zumwalt East’s Luke Eaton.

After a loss to De Soto’s undefeated Logan Zimmermann by a 15-0 technical fall, Kuenzel won his final two matches. He posted an 8-2 decision over Sullivan’s Trey Eplin and a 13-2 major decision over Eaton in the third-place bout.

Inman won three of his five matches, starting with a 17-2 technical fall over Lexington’s Josh Payne in 3:15.

Inman then won another technical fall over Parkway West’s Arion Ivy.

Gatlin Taylor of Poplar Bluff posted a 10-4 decision over Inman in the semifinals. Inman recovered by win a technical fall, 18-3, over Payne. North County’s Cody White won a 19-4 technical fall over Inman in the third-place bout.

Stalcup opened with a 15-0 technical fall over Hancock’s Chase Blagg before pinning Kenneth Coates of De Soto.

Ward opened with a pin loss to Sullivan’s Tristan Brown in 5:35. He won his next two matches, pinning Ft. Zumwalt East’s Dominic Tjaden in 2:59 and Windsor’s Dante Reigle in 0:11.

Poplar Bluff’s Kedrick Gordon then pinned Ward in 3:50. Brown won by a 3-0 decision in a rematch.

Union’s other wrestlers in the meet were:

• Ben Cox (145) recorded two wins, a 0:14 pin of Lexington’s Michelle Mohler and a 14-6 major decision over Valle Catholic’s Peyton Tucker;

• Luke Siddens (182) defeated Cape Notre Dame’s Dylan Bomar, 7-4, and pinned Webster Groves’ Logan Lawson in 0:51;

• Hunter Garrett (120) went 1-2 with a pin win over Sullivan’s Joseph Lewis in 3:22;

• Carter Sickmeier (126) went 1-2, pinning Windsor’s Tyler Perry in 0:30;

• Wyatt Davis (132) was 1-2 with a 9-7 decision over Valle Catholic’s Josh Bieser; and

• Gabe Hoekel (138) was 1-2 with a pin win over Parkway North’s Tyler Brown.
