Backed by five runs, St. Clair Post 347 Juniors pitcher Dalton Thompson cruised to a complete game shutout of Elsberry Post 226 Friday.

Post 347 improved to 5-4 on the season with a 5-0 win at home against Post 226.

St. Clair scored three times in the third inning and twice in the sixth.

Thompson held Elsberry to just five hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

“We got back on track to minimize mistakes,” Post 347 Manager Gary Land said. “Defense was really solid and pitching was really good. (We) had timely hits to get us on the board and able to shut them out.”

Johnny Kindel posted a double and a single with a walk and a run scored to lead the St. Clair offense.

Gus Land singled and drove in two runs.

Chase Walters, Derek Fitzgerald and Garrett Henrichs all singled.

Cole Venable scored two runs.

Blaine Downey and Henrichs scored once each.

Venable walked twice and Brady Simpson once.

Downey, Walters and Steven Conner were each hit by a pitch.

Elsberry’s five hits were divided evenly among Grant Nichols, Colby Gruenich, Dillon Niemeyer, Landon Harlan and Braden Donhardt.

Nichols had the only extra-base hit, a double.

Gruenich was hit by a pitch twice and Niemeyer reached once on a walk.

Dillon Magill pitched 2.2 innings for Post 266 and allowed three runs on one hit with three walks and three strikeouts.

Chance Lucas threw 2.1 innings and allowed no runs on three hits with one strikeout.

Landon Kent pitched one inning, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and a walk.
