Scoring once in each half, the Union soccer Wildcats earned their second victory of the season Wednesday at home.

Union (2-9) defeated Affton, 2-0.

“We played very well all over the field,” Union Head Coach Josh Wideman said. “The boys finally played a full 80 minutes. We made good soccer decisions during the game. I have been talking to them about making the right soccer decisions at the right time during the game and I felt that we were successful in that last night.”

Isaac Boboc scored Union’s first goal with 22:34 left in the first half, heading in a Dustin Kohler corner kick.

“Dustin played a great ball in and Isaac made a great run and a finish,” Wideman said.

With four minutes to go, Lucas Dowil headed in a goal with Derek Foster assisting to seal the win.

“Late in the second half Derek Foster played a free kick in and Lucas Dowil got a flick with his head to get past the goalie,” Wideman said. “Both Lucas and Isaac played very well during the game.”

Riley Nagle earned the shutout.

“We played a good sound defensive game from the forwards to the defense,” said Wideman. “Riley Nagle recorded his first shutout this season. He made a couple big saves in the game.  The first was in the first half when he came out and made a side and took the ball right off the player’s foot. The other big save came in the second half right after we scored our second goa l.  They hit a hard shot and Riley made a diving save to his right.”

Wideman also said Tristin Rybak had a good game off the bench.

“Tristin made really good soccer decisions while he was in,” Wideman said.
