Getting back into the win column, the East Central College soccer Falcons won Saturday at Harris-Stowe State University, 4-0, and Sunday in Fayette against the Central Methodist University JV team, 4-2.

The Falcons (9-3) hosted MCC-Blue River in an NJCAA Division I Region 16 match Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons hit the road for matches at State Fair (Friday at 1 p.m.) Missouri Valley JV (Sunday at 1 p.m.) and Heartland (Wednesday, Oct. 11) before returning home Saturday, Oct. 14, to host MCC-Maple Woods.

Harris-Stowe

The Falcons scored once in the first half to take the lead and didn’t score again until notching three in the final 24 minutes.

“We had a good game from a lot of the players and scored some really nice goals,” East Central Head Coach Benji Grimes said.

Billy Thompson (The City School, Sheffield, England) scored the first East Central goal in the 30th minute with Nicholas Tosovsky-Heinemeier (Edwardsville, Ill.) assisting.

The next two goals came from Joel Konteh (Robert Smith Academy, Market Harborough, England) in the 66th and 68th minutes. Donald Meyer (Lutheran South) assisted on the first one. Sebastian Jarrin (Thomas Moro, Quito, Ecuador) assisted on the second.

Braydon Roberts (St. Clair) finished the scoring in the 86th minute, heading in a cross from Amiru N’Diaye (Rutherford High School, Panama City, Fla.).

“Braydon Roberts capped the scoring off with the fourth of the afternoon with a great run forward and put a strong header off a cross and buried it on the run,” Grimes said.

Grimes said Konteh was the team’s player of the game.

CMU JV

Heading west Sunday, the Falcons won 4-2 in Fayette against the Central Methodist University JV team.

East Central outscored Central Methodist in each half, 2-1, but had to fight back from giving up a goal early in the game.

Grimes said goalkeeper Moises Aldana (Hall High School, Spring Valley, Ill.) had a goal kick blocked and Central Methodist was able to take advantage to score.

The Falcons equalized in the 13th minute with Ralph Joseph (Mars Hill, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) scoring on a through ball from Juan Bolivar (South Broward High School, Hollywood Fla.).

The Falcons went ahead in the 20th minute on Joseph’s second goal with Thompson assisting. Grimes said Joseph was able to get around a defender and then beat the goalkeeper on a breakaway.

“At the half it was 2-1,” Grimes said. “We came out and played hard and did well controlling most of the second half.”

East Central added another goal in the 82nd minute after a Magnus Andersen (Koege Business School, Koege, Denmark) free kick after Joseph was fouled at the top of the box. Andersen spotted Zach Druhe (Granite City, Ill.) open and hit him with a pass. Druhe scored to make it 3-1.

Central Methodist scored a minute later after Grimes had subbed in several players. The starters came back in and Druhe scored his second goal in the 88th minute. This time, Druhe headed the ball into the net. Andersen again assisted.

“Rudy Gonzalez (Carthage) and Nick Tosovsky-Heinemeier performed very well and Joel Konteh was so good distributing the ball and winning tackles. Joel was instrumental in our victory. I would say that Ralph and Zach shared player of the game honors.”

Aldana made six saves in goal for the Falcons.
