Washington’s Sandbothe family is among the honorees for the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame 2019 induction ceremony slated for Springfield.
All seven children of Louis and Wanda “Nellie” Sandbothe attended college on athletic scholarships. Scott, Steve, Robin, Mark, Mike, Lori and Lisa Sandbothe all played college sports. Mike, Lori and Lisa played at Mizzou. Lori and Lisa both were honored as Miss Show-Me Basketball.
A number of the grandchildren also have gone on to standout athletic careers and have played college sports.
Highlighted inductees include World Series winner Ryan Howard (Lafayette High School and Missouri State University), Carlos Carson of the Kansas City Chiefs, Jeff Suppan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals, Mizzou tight end Chase Coffman and former Tennessee quarterback and baseball player Alan Cockrell.
The event is Sunday, Jan. 27, in Springfield. Associate sponsors are Advertising Plus, Bryan Properties, Great Southern Bank, Hiland Dairy Foods and Hillyard, Inc. Festivities begin with an 11 a.m. reception presented by Reliable Toyota at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. The remainder of events are at the University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center, with a 4 p.m. reception followed by a 5 p.m. dinner and ceremony.
