Earn another meet.
That’s what area track athletes will be attempting to accomplish Saturday.
For one team, New Haven, districts have already come and gone. For the rest, Saturday marks the first step toward advancing to state.
The Lady Shamrocks won the Class 1 District 1 title and have 20 entrants at Saturday’s Class 1 Section 1 meet in Oakville, which will run in conjunction with the Class 5 District 1 meet.
New Haven’s boys qualified for the sectional meet in four events — the 3,200-meter relay, 3,200-meter run, 1,600-meter run and pole vault.
Fulton St. Albans runner Elliott Voelkel advanced to that sectional in the 1,600-meter run also.
Class 5 District 1 field events will begin at 10:30 a.m. The Class 1 Section 1 field events will follow after each corresponding district field event’s conclusion.
Running prelims begin at 11 a.m. and running finals start at 1 p.m. with the district and sectional events running concurrently.
Washington, St. Francis Borgia Regional, Union and St. Clair are all heading to the Class 4 District 5 meet in Camdenton. Other teams competing in that meet will be Sullivan, Rolla, Bolivar, Helias, Hillcrest, Marshfield and Willard.
That meet will run concurrently with the Class 2 Section 3 meet. Field events will start at 9:30 a.m. and running events at 10 a.m.
Pacific will host the Class 4 District 2 meet with field events starting at 9 a.m. Running prelims begin at 10:15 a.m.
Teams coming to Pacific include Affton, Confluence Prep, Gateway, Lutheran South, Miller Career Academy, Parkway West, Rockwood Summit, Rosati-Kain, St. Mary’s, Ursuline, Webster Groves and Windsor.
St. James will host the Class 3 District 5 meet. Field events begin at 9:30 a.m. and running prelims at 10:15 a.m.
Other schools from Class 3 District 5 include Owensville, Cuba, Salem, Blair Oaks, Eldon, Fatima, Houston, Mountain View Liberty, Mountain Grove, Osage and Willow Springs.
