For the second time in three seasons, the Washington Post 218 Freshman Legion team has earned a state championship.

Washington (31-11) knocked off Ste. Genevieve Post 150, 3-0, Sunday morning in the winner-take-all game at Rotary Recreational Complex - Ronsick Field.

Washington forced the final game by winning 5-2 in the first championship game Saturday. Post 218 also eliminated Creve Coeur Post 397 Saturday, 8-3.

It was the program's sixth state championship and second at the Freshman level. In 2012, Post 218 also defeated Ste. Genevieve in the winner-take-all game in Branson.

Three of Washington's state titles have come at the Senior Legion level (1957, 1989, 2012) and one at the Junior Legion level (2005).

All three runs were scored in the top of the seventh inning. Jeff Peters led off with a double. Drew Piontek added a two-run triple later in the inning.

Eli Marquart closed out a complete-game shutout in the bottom of the seventh with the final out coming on a pop foul caught by catcher Teddy Meyer.
