Scoring early and often, the Washington Post 218 Freshman Legion team raced past St. Charles Post 312 Wednesday at Rotary Recreational Complex - Ronsick Field, 15-2.

Washington (15-0-2, 11-0) scored three times in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

Post 218 added 10 runs in the third before St. Charles scored one in the fourth. Washington added two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

St. Charles scored once in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to keep the game going due to the run rule.

Washington used two pitchers in the game. Brandon Stahlman pitched three hitless innings to earn the win. He struck out one.

Cody Linders threw the next two games, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks. He struck out two.

Post 218 had 11 hits, eight walks and two hitters who reached on errors.

Brayden Meyer, Jared Schrader and Luke Hendrickson each had two hits. Hendrickson tripled.

Levi Weber, Bryce Mayer, Joe Hackmann, Stahlman and Linders had one hit.

Stahlman and Louis Paule walked twice. Eli Humpherys, John Volmert, Will Heggemann and Linders each walked once.

Once on base, Washington had nine stolen bases by nine different runners. Heggemann, Drew Holtmeyer, Humpherys, Linders, Brayden Meyer, Bryce Mayer, Schrader, Stahlman and Volmert stole bases.

Humpherys and Luke Hendrickson each scored twice. Weber, Bryce Mayer, Brayden Mayer, Nick Hellmann, Hackmann, Volmert, Stahlman, Schrader, Paule, Heggemann and Linders scored once.

Brayden Mayer, Schrader and Heggemann each drove in two. Humpherys, Jack Czeschin, Hellmann, Hackmann, Drew Holtmeyer, Linders and Hendrickson had one RBI apiece.

Post 218 played Thursday at Wentzville. Washington plays nonleague games at Union Saturday, taking on Post 297 at noon and Smithton at 2:30 p.m.

Post 218 goes to Hermann Sunday for a doubleheader against Rhineland Post 147 at 1 p.m. That’s a showdown of the two top teams in the Ninth District.
