There will be no winning streak at the GAC/Suburban Challenge for Washington this season.

After beating Normandy at the event last year, the Blue Jays (4-3) lost 52-48 against Parkway North (4-2) Friday at Lindenwood University.

Parkway North led 16-12 after the first quarter, but Washington came back to tie it up at 23-23 at halftime.

“They jumped on us early with their athleticism and pressure,” Head Coach Grant Young said. “... I was proud of our kids to fight back like that in the first half and then to at least give themselves a chance at the end.”

Washington was able hold a lead for the majority of the third quarter and the game remained close, though the Vikings pulled ahead 40-39 going into the final eight minutes.

Four key turnovers allowed Parkway North to build an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter and Washington again attempted to battle back, but couldn’t quite even the score.

Cason Suggs led the Blue Jays with 14 points.

Alec Brinkmann also reached double digits with 11 points.

Zach Harms netted nine points, Tommy Ruether seven, Ryan Hoerstkamp four and Ty Rinne three in the contest.

The Vikings were led in scoring by Tayari Goodwin with 16 points.

Parkway North had two other players in double digits, Brandon Lightfoot with 12 points and Xavier Drummond with 10.

Keashon Petty scored six points and Alijah Mitchell and Amari Wilson each netted three. Tyler Harris rounded out the Viking scoring with two points.
