Celebrating a Title

It was the one title which had eluded John VanLeer and his Pacific basketball Indians.

But on Friday night, the Indians ended their district title drought, defeating rival Borgia for the Class 4 District 6 title at Union High School, 50-43.

Senior Cameron VanLeer led the Indians in scoring with 25 points and senior Trey Boyer chipped in with 10.

Senior Hunter Mehler led Borgia with 13 points. Senior Eli Marquart was next with 12 and senior Jacob Unnerstall ended with 10 points.

The top-seeded Indians will play Parkway Central Tuesday at Kirkwood High School in the sectional round. Parkway Central defeated John Burroughs, 66-50 to win the Class 4 District 5 title.

In the girls championship game, top-seeded Sullivan defeated No. 2 St. Clair, 41-26.

Sullivan will take on MICDS Tuesday at Kirkwood High School at 6 p.m. MICDS defeated Parkway North for the Class 4 District 5 title, 54-51.

Sectional winners will play next Saturday at Washington High School in the quarterfinals.
