While Pacific’s girls basketball team will face Rockwood Summit in the first round and Summit’s Holiday Tournament Wednesday, the boys will face the same school at a different tournament Thursday.
The Indians (6-2) take on Rockwood Summit (1-7) in the first round of Rolla’s Holiday Tournament.
Play begins at 2:30 p.m. at Missouri S &T. Pacific and Summit are scheduled for the second game of the first round at 4 p.m. Play will be split between the college and high school campuses.
The eight-team field also includes Hogan Prep, Springfield Catholic, Warrensburg, Hickman, Mexico and Rolla.
The Indians defeated Mexico in the first round at this same tournament last year before Rolla got by Pacific in the semifinals. Hickman bested Pacific in the third-place game last season.
Pacific comes into this year’s tournament on a three-game winning streak after topping Kickapoo at the Ozark Mountain Shootout and then opening Four Rivers Conference play 2-0 with wins against Union and New Haven.
After finishing second at Borgia’s annual Turkey Tournament last month, the Indians are firing on all cylinders and aiming for their first tournament title of the season.
Conversely, Rockwood Summit comes into the tournament in the midst of a seven-game losing streak. The Falcons defeated Ste. Genevieve in the first round of the Fountain City Classic back in November to open the season, but have not been able to put together another win since.
In the second round of play, win or lose, Pacific will match up with either Hogan Prep or Springfield Catholic in the semifinals of either the championship bracket or consolation bracket Friday.
The other first-round matchups are Hickman against Warrensburg and Rolla against Mexico.
Play will conclude with the trophy round on Saturday.
