It was an improvement, but another loss.

Taking on O’Fallon, Ill., for the second time this season, the Union Post 297 Freshman Legion team fell at home Wednesday, 11-1.

The teams played May 26 in Illinois and O’Fallon won that game, 14-0.

“We were short some players but that’s bound to happen in the summer,” Post 297 Manager Ryan Bailey said. “The good news is we got a chance for 10 of our guys to get out on a nice night and get in some swings and work on some things defensively. Anytime you can play baseball it’s a good thing.”

Union (11-10) split a doubleheader in St. Charles Thursday. A story on the games will appear in a later edition.

Post 297 hosts Washington Saturday at noon and Smithton at 5 p.m.

On Sunday, Post 297 goes to Elsberry for games against Post 226 at noon and Hannibal Post 55 at 2 p.m.

In Wednesday’s game, O’Fallon opened with one run in the first, three runs in the second and six more in the third before Union scored in the bottom of the fourth.

O’Fallon pushed its final run across the plate in the sixth.

Union was limited to three hits in the game. Evan Hall doubled. Dylan McLone and Ronin Straatmann singled.

Matthew Reidel, Trevor Rinne and Canyon Terrill each walked.

McLone scored the run and Dawson Hix drove him in.

McLone started on the mound for Post 297 and went two innings, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks. He was charged with the loss.

Colten Fink got one out, allowing five runs on two hits, two walks and a hit batter.

Will Beckman pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits and one walk. He fanned two.

Rinne pitched the final two innings, allowing a run on two hits and a walk.
