Holding the St. Clair Post 347 Juniors off the scoreboard until the sixth inning, Sullivan Post 18 notched a 9-2 home win Thursday.

Sullivan starting pitcher Garrett Juergens shut down Post 347 (4-4) for the first five innings to help Post 18 improve to 8-0 on the season.

Juergens allowed three hits and struck out seven.

Andrew Branson pitched the final two innings and allowed two unearned runs on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.

Both of the Post 347 runs came in the top of the sixth.

Sullivan scored twice in the first inning, twice in the third, four times in the fifth and once in the sixth.

“They’re a really good team,” Post 347 Manager Gary Land said. “We want to play teams like them to show us where we need to get better. ... They were able to put the ball in play and find some places where we weren’t. We had some chanced in the early innings and failed to capitalize on them.”

Branson led Post 18 with three hits — two doubles and a single. He also walked and scored four runs.

Joshua Earney doubled, singled and scored once with three RBIs.

Joshua Wiese, Blayton Nolie, Collin Immekus, Andrew Bell and Ethan Kackley all singled.

Nolie and Immekus drove in two runs each. Kackley recorded one RBI.

Wiese reached on an error twice and scored three runs. Braden Carey scored once.

Carey walked twice. Alec Bell walked once.

Gus Land pitched 4.1 innings for Post 347, allowing eight runs, six earned, on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Blaine Downey went 1.2 innings on the mound, allowing one run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Cole Venable, Johnny Kindel, Chase Walters and Gus Land each singled for St. Clair.

Downey and Kindel scored the two runs.

Brady Simpson and Sal Caminitti each posted one RBI.

Gus Land and Caminitti both drew a walk.

Simpson and Venable were hit by pitches.

Venable stole two bases.
