In some years, going 3-3 in the pool games at the MSHSAA State Volleyball Tournament might be good enough.

However, for the Hermann Lady Bearcats, it wasn’t enough to make the Class 2 championship match Friday.

St. Pius X (Festus), the defending state champion, went 5-1 while Strafford claimed the second championship match spot at 4-2.

Hermann moved to the third-place match with St. Michael the Archangel, which went 0-6.

During pool action, Hermann:

• Defeated St. Michael, 25-9, 25-14;

• Lost to St. Pius X, 25-15, 25-22; and

• Split with Strafford, 15-25, 25-21.

In the pool opener, Hermann rolled past the Kansas City school.

Brooke Grosse led the team in kills with five. Jessica Rood and Tess Schannuth were next with three each while Allison Stiers had two. Emma Godat and Symantha Fredrick each had one kill.

Schannuth and Stiers each had six assists. Caraline Brune posted two and Fredrick had one.

Grosse served four aces while Schannuth had three and Fredrick and Stiers each had two.

Stiers was the digs leader with seven. Grosse and Fredrick each had four. Tessa Eldringhoff had three whole Schannuth had two and Brune and Rood posted one apiece.

Fredrick had a solo block. Godat, Grosse and Schannuth had one block assist apiece.

St. Pius swept Hermann in the rematch of last year’s state championship match.

Fredrick posted half of Hermann’s 14 kills for the match. Godat, Grosse and Schannuth each had two and Rood added one kill.

Schannuth and Stiers each had seven assists. Grosse, Schannuth and Stiers served one ace apiece.

Schannuth was the digs leader with seven. Eldringhoff and Stiers each had six and Fredrick was next with five. Brune and Grosse posted three digs apiece and Rood had one.

Grosse had two block assists. Fredrick and Stiers each had one.

In the final pool match, Schannuth led the team in kills with six. Grosse and Fredrick each had five. Rood was next with four and Stiers had two.

Stiers posted 11 assists and Schannuth had eight.

Stiers made 12 digs.

Schannuth had 10 and Grosse was next with eight. Eldringhoff and Fredrick each posted five digs. Rood had four and Brune ended with three.

Grosse and Schannuth had one block assist apiece.
