Washington’s second straight run to the state playoffs resulted in five players being selected to the GAC Central’s All-Conference Team.

In addition to two players being first team selections and three selected for the second team, Head Coach Philip King was named Coach of the Year. King shares the honor this year with Holt Head Coach Joel Adam.

The two coaches not only split the award, but their teams shared the conference championship.

Sophomore pitcher Ellie Quaethem and senior center fielder Nichole Brinker were the first team selections for the Lady Jays.

Quaethem went 14-5 in the circle, throwing 115 innings and posting a 1.70 ERA with 117 strikeouts.

Brinker led the team with a .424 batting average and a .480 on-base percentage. She tied for the team lead with 15 stolen bases and scored 24 times. She exits her final season as the school’s career record holder in hits, runs scored and stolen bases.

First baseman Jessica Huxol, third baseman Jena Monehan, both juniors, and senior utility player Taylor Hendrix were each selected to the conference’s second team.

Hendrix batted .385 with three home runs, seven doubles and 20 runs batted in on the season. Hendrix threw 51.2 innings in the circle, posting a 6-3 record with one save and an ERA of 4.07.

Huxol led Washington in RBIs this season with 28. She clubbed two home runs and eight doubles to go with a .333 batting average.

Monehan slugged a team-high six home runs, doubled six times, drove in 21 runs and scored 24 times. She posted a batting average of .324.
