O'FALLON, Mo. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a former minor-league baseball player from suburban St. Louis whose body was found in a creek.

Police say 24-year-old Kent Gerst of O'Fallon, Mo., was reported missing Sunday afternoon. KSDK-TV (http://on.ksdk.com/PbrCuk ) reports that his body was found hours later in a creek in O'Fallon.

The cause of death remains under investigation, but authorities believe he fell from a small bluff.

Gerst was a 2006 draft pick of the Chicago White Sox who made it as high as Triple-A before being released. He later signed with the Gateway Grizzlies, an independent minor-league team in Sauget, Ill. He hit .228 in 36 games for the Grizzlies in 2011.
