Starting the new year at home, the Crosspoint Christian School basketball teams split against Mississippi Valley Christian of Alton, Ill.

Crosspoint’s boys (9-1) defeated Mississippi Valley Christian, 55-38.

In the girls game, Mississippi Valley Christian defeated the Lady Cougars (4-6), 52-36.

Crosspoint returns to action Tuesday with games at Rivers of Life. Both teams go on the road Friday to play Liberty Christian in Wright City. Junior varsity boys action starts at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity girls playing at 6 p.m. and the varsity boys taking the court at 7:30 p.m.


The Cougars jumped out to a 15-8 lead after one quarter and were up 25-12 at the half. It was 39-26 for Crosspoint through three quarters.

Nate Davis earned player of the game honors, scoring 21 points with five rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot.

Crosspoint Head Coach Scott Weldy mentioned it was his season-high scoring total and he hit 10 of 18 shots in the game.

Sam Coons netted 12 points with eight rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Luke Aholt returned from an injury and scored 10 points with five rebounds and a steal.

AJ Nantz netted six points. Nic Blocker, David Coroama and Clay Williams each scored two points.

Nantz pulled down nine rebounds with six assists. Blocker had three rebounds and a blocked shot. Coroama recorded a rebound. Williams pulled down four rebounds and added a steal.

Junior Gleason led Mississippi Valley with 17 points. Nathan Thompson and JD Wright scored six points apiece. Jonah Schell added four points while Raysean Becquette ended with three and Noah Scroggins scored two points.

Wright was the rebounding leader with 10. Schnell had six assists and six rebounds.


Mississippi Valley outscored Crosspoint in three of the four quarters to win the girls game.

It was 10-5 after one quarter and 23-15 at the half. Mississippi Valley led 33-27 at the end of the third quarter.

Emily Bratch led Crosspoint in scoring with 17 points. She also had six rebounds, five steals and two assists.

Sara Blackburn came close to a double-double with nine points and 16 rebounds. She also had two steals and one assist.

Bratch and Blackburn each made three free throws. Crosspoint was 6-10 from the stripe in the game. Bratch hit both of the three-point baskets for Crosspoint.

Rachel Smith was next in scoring with six points and she also had six rebounds.

Elaina Carson and Hannah Knudsvig scored two points apiece. Carson added a rebound. Knudsvig had six rebounds and a steal.
