Crosspoint Christian School’s boys soccer juggernaut kept rolling Tuesday in the season opener.

The Cougars, undefeated MCSAA state champions last season, won a Metro Athletic Conference road contest over Christian Academy of Greater St. Louis Tuesday, 10-1.

“It was a good first game for us,” Coach Mike Hopkins said.  “We definitely have some work to do on communicating and spacing, but the boys gave a good effort for most of the game.”

Senior Zach Alberson, a 52-goal scorer last season, got a quick start to the 2018 season with five tallies against CAGSL. He also recorded an assist.

Seth Aholt, a freshman, scored two goals with two assists. Lex Rocha, a sophomore who scored 11 goals and 13 assists last season, scored two goals and had one assist.

The other Crosspoint goal came from sophomore Gavin Mehrhoff.

Alberson scored his first goal two minutes into the game with Jonny Aholt assisting. Rocha scored on an assist from Alberson in the sixth minute to make it 2-0.

The CAGSL goal came in the 12th minute, but the Cougars responded with four more goals to lead 6-1 at the intermission.

Crosspoint returns to conference action Tuesday, playing at Fulton St. Albans with a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Cougars head to Columbia to face Christian Fellowship Friday, Sept. 7, in a 5 p.m. match.
