A late rally from Hermann would not deny Bulldogs baseball a win Thursday.
St. Clair (3-7, 2-1) defeated the Bearcats (2-6, 1-1), 7-6, on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh.
The Bulldogs picked up one run in the first inning and four in the second to jump out to a 5-1 lead.
Hermann got one run in the third and one in the fifth before St. Clair added an insurance run in the sixth.
The Bearcats then rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6.
St. Clair loaded the bases with one out in the home half of the seventh and Bailey Smith drew the walk to plate the winning run.
“Fortunately, we kept battling and we loaded the bases up in the bottom of the seventh,” St. Clair Head Coach Mitch Lundy said. “Bailey Smith came to bat and he fought off a couple (of) tough pitches and forced a walk to walk it off. It was a key win for us.”
Mason Dodson started on the mound for St. Clair. He struck out 10 batters in six innings and allowed three runs on six hits and three walks.
Dodson helped his own cause at the plate, going 2-4 with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in.
“Mason Dodson threw six innings and didn’t give up a earned run,” Lundy said. “Mason has been exceptional for us this year. He is on fire at the plate and he is on fire on the mound, as well. He has really taken his game to another level this year.”
Michael Hughes batted 2-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
Smith went 1-2 with a walk, a run scored and the game-winning RBI.
Dalton Thompson went 1-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Timmy Hoffman, 1-3, tripled, walked and drove in a run.
Blaine Downey went 1-1.
Johnny Kindel, 1-3, singled and scored.
Clay Banderman and Brady Branscum each scored a run.
Banderman stole a base.
Downey pitched the seventh inning for St. Clair, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks.
The Bulldogs continue Four Rivers Conference play at St. James Monday at 4:30 p.m.
