St. Clair wrestling opened its home schedule by winning one and losing one in a tri-meet.
The Bulldogs were winners in their first dual of the night, 54-11 against Lutheran South. De Soto then edged St. Clair 36-31 in the second.
Lutheran South forfeited six weight classes to St. Clair and three matches were double forfeits. The Bulldogs won three of the five contested matches, each via pin.
De Soto and St. Clair each forfeited one weight class to each other and there was one double forfeit. The Dragons won six of the 11 contested matches with the Bulldogs.
Five Bulldogs were winners in both of their contests.
Dalton Thompson pinned Lutheran South’s Joseph Bruhn in 55 seconds in the 120 pounds weight class during the first dual of the tri-meet. He then moved up to 126 against De Soto, where he defeated Devin Francis by a 10-2 major decision.
He was not the only St. Clair wrestler to move up a class and come away with a win. Ryan Herman got a forfeit win at 152 pounds against Lutheran South before bumping up to 160 pounds, pinning Dominic DeMarco from De Soto in 4:41.
Jason Landing pinned both his opponents at 132 pounds, going over Andreas Shermann from Lutheran South in 1:12 and Zachary Stevens from De Soto in 3:22.
Aaron Herman got both wins at 195 pounds, winning by forfeit against Lutheran South and edging De Soto’s Logan Smith 4-2 in sudden victory overtime.
The last double winner for St. Clair was Josh Richards at 220 pounds. Lutheran South forfeited that weight class and Richards pinned Hunter Lebel from De Soto in 3:56.
Lance McCoy was not in the lineup against Lutheran South, but filled in for Ryan Herman at 152 against De Soto, where he won via forfeit.
Brandon Lackey McDowell got a pin win for the Bulldogs in 42 seconds against Thanh Phahn from Lutheran South at 145 pounds.
St. Clair had three other winners against Lutheran South, each by forfeit — Cody Armisted (106), Randy Simpson (182) and Trevion Harvey (285).
Lutheran South’s points came from Alex Gardner’s pin win against Grant Bay at 170 pounds and a win by technical fall, 20-3, for Jacob Mirly against Bailey Gardner at 138.
De Soto got pin wins from Connor Zimmermann (138 against Bailey Gardner), Blake Hearst (145 against McDowell), Logan Zimmermann (170 against Bay) and Lucas Watson (182 against Simpson).
Landon Porter and Scotty Grebe were also winners for the Dragons.
Grebe defeated Armisted at 106 by a 12-8 decision. Porter got by Harvey with a 3-1 decision at 285 pounds.
