There was good news and bad news for the St. Francis Borgia Regional wrestling team Monday night.

Hosting a tri-meet at the Wingbermuehle Activity Center, the Knights defeated Valle Catholic, 23-12.

In the other match, the Jefferson City C team shut out Borgia, 70-0.

“We beat Valle and went 1-2 in head-to-head competition,” Borgia Head Coach Matt Posinski said. “We did not win a single match against Jefferson City C.”

Much of the meet against Valle consisted of forfeits. Borgia’s winner in a contested match was Grant Straatmann (138) and he earned a 16-0 technical fall win over Josh Bieser.

In the other contested matches, Valley’s Peyton Tucker pinned Borgia’s Nathan Boone at 145 pounds in 0:46 and Valley’s Trey Huck (160) pinned Brynner Frankenberg in 3:51.

Borgia’s Joseph Lause (113), Braedyn Frankenberg (182) and Thaddeus Isgrigg (195) were forfeit winners.

Valle only had three wrestlers.

In the Jefferson City match, contested bouts were:

• DaJuan Wallace (113) earned a 13-5 decision over Lause;

• Adrian Hendricks (138) posted an 8-4 win over Straatmann;

• Ethan Walling (145) pinned Boone in 0:44;

• Alvao Arguello (160) won an 11-3 major decision over Brynner Frankenberg;

• Cory Denny (182) pinned Braedyn Frankenberg in 3:26; and

• Ian Nelson (195) pinned Isgrigg in 2:29.

Jefferson City’s forfeit winners were Sterling Wheatley (120), Nikolas Sawderman (126), Albert Naaman (132), Tanner Quick (152), Jakeil Hayes (170), Isaac Enloe (220) and Kent Walker (285).

There were six exhibition matches and Borgia won two of them.

Lause won a 17-2 technical fall over Wheatley at 113 and Braedyn Frankenberg pinned Bahshi Trylor at 182 in 0:41.

Oliver Mace (152) lost two exhibitions, 11-2 to Quick and 7-6 (overtime) to Tim Davis.

Jefferson City’s Hunter Schulte (182) pinned Brady Kleekamp in 1:46. Bryan Mendez of the Jays pinned Isgrigg at 195 in 4:31.
