Welcoming their crosstown neighbors to the world of competitive girls golf, the Borgia Lady Knights defeated the Washington Lady Jays Monday at Franklin County Country Club, 215-241.
“It was an honor to have Washington High School here today,” Borgia Coach Chip Thompson said. “It was a lot of fun.”
Washington Head Coach Adam Fischer said it was good to play the program’s first competitive meet.
“It was good to get our first one out of the way,” Fischer said. “I think the girls will be a little more relaxed the next time. We did have the girls shoot some of their better scores so far. If we can keep improving every round, that’s all we can ask for.”
Borgia’s Holly Swartz and Marcy Brinker tied for medalist honors at 48.
Also counting in Borgia’s team score were Clara Hagedorn at 58 and Grace Fletcher at 61.
Borgia’s other golfers were Sydney Unnerstall at 64 and Haleigh Forget at 66.
Washington’s top golfer was Carol Williams, who shot 58.
Emma Jones and Taylor Feighery were just a stroke back at 59. Jessica Slaughter shot 65.
Aubree Kitchell did not finish due to the heat.
