While the Borgia softball Lady Knights already had clinched the Archdiocesan Athletic Association Large Division title before Wednesday’s game against Notre Dame, the final home contest of the regular season still had meaning.

Borgia (16-5, 8-0) shut out Notre Dame, 12-0, to finish the AAA Large schedule with a perfect record.

“The game was a lot of fun,” Borgia Head Coach Andrew Eggert said. “Our girls came ready to play. They were eager to wrap up conference play with a perfect record.”

Lizzie Lynchard tossed yet another shutout for the Lady Knights, allowing one hit while striking out seven over five innings.

“Liz pitched very well from within the circle, and the defense was able to fall right in line,” Eggert said.

Borgia’s offense made sure that Lynchard had a short day, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first and adding four more in the fourth. The contest ended after the top of the fifth due to the mercy rule.

“We had a better approach in the box and were able to put good swings on the ball,” Eggert said.

Offensively, the Lady Knights hit the ball with power during the game. Borgia had 13 hits, including two home runs and five doubles.

Smacking home runs were Josie Lindemann and Dani Kimminau. It was Lindemann’s second game in a row with a home run.

Players with doubles were Maria Bohle, Lynchard, Shekinah Garcilaso, Lindemann and Abi Schmidt.

Beth Obermark, Lindemann, Kimminau, Bohle and Garcilaso each had two hits in the game. MJ Maguire, Lynchard and Schmidt each had one hit.

Lynchard also drew a walk. Brianna Moritz sacrificed. Garcilaso stole two bases. Kimminau and Lidnsey Molitor each had one steal.

Lindemann, Elizabeth Smith, Kimminau and Bohle each scored twice. Maguire, Molitor, Schmidt and Garcilaso scored once.

Lindemann drove in three runs. Kimminau and Garcilaso each drove in a pair. Obermark and Bohle drove in one run apiece.

It was the final regular season home game for Borgia’s three seniors, center fielder Maguire, shortstop Bohle and second baseman Brianna Moritz.

Borgia will host the Class 3 District 4 Tournament next week. The Lady Knights are the top seed and will have a first-round bye. Borgia will play the winner of the Affton-Westminster game Thursday at 2:15 p.m.
