Josie Lindemann delivered a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh Saturday to lift the St. Francis Borgia Regional softball Lady Knights past Union, 2-1, in the Class 3 District 9 championship game Saturday.
Union took the lead in the top of the fourth when Taylor Stroup reached and Borgia committed a throwing error. Hailey Earney came around to score.
Borgia struggled against Union pitcher Kelsie Hardester, but the Lady ’Cats couldn’t get anything else against Borgia’s Liz Lynchard either and the game stayed 1-0 going to the bottom of the seventh.
With one out, Mya Hillermann beat out a bunt. Down to the final strike, Beth Obermark singled to center. Hillermann advanced to third. Obermark stole second while Lindemann was up at the plate.
Lindemann, who belted two home runs in the semifinals against St. Clair, came through with a single. Hillermann scored to tie it and Obermark hustled home from second with the winning run.
Borgia (18-5) will play at Sullivan (25-4) Wednesday in the Class 3 sectional round.
Union finished the season at 16-9.
Complete coverage will be in the Wednesday Missourian.
