Taking another step toward the Archdiocesan Athletic Association Large Division title, the Borgia softball Lady Knights blazed past Rosati-Kain Monday to sweep the season series, 12-2.

“It was our senior night, and our seniors showed up to play,” Borgia Head Coach Andrew Eggert said.

While the Lady Knights (9-2, 5-0) still have a key home-and-home series coming up against perennial league power St. Dominic, the team is placing itself in position to repeat as the league winner.

Borgia jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning and added four runs in the third.

Rosati-Kain posted two runs in the fifth, but the Lady Knights ended it with three more runs in the sixth.

Laura Dorpinghaus went the distance in the circle for the Lady Knights, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks. She struck out seven Kougars.

“Laura gave us a great outing from inside the circle and the defense made plays behind her,” Eggert said. “Our entire lineup contributed positively to this win. It was great to get to celebrate the girls and play that well.”

Offensively, Maddie Tuepker led the way with four hits in five at-bats.

Katelyn Gratza, Shelby West and Beth Obermark each had two hits. MJ Maguire and Dani Kimminau each had one hit.

Obermark and Kimminau doubled.

Tuepker and Gratza scored three times apiece. Maguire, Josie Lindemann, Brianna Moritz, West, Obermark and Maria Bohle scored once.

Obermark and Kimminau each drove in two runs. Lydia Helfrich and West had one RBI apiece.

Helfrich drew three walks while Maguire walked twice and Gratza, Lindemann and Obermark each walked once.

Obermark added a stolen base.
