Borgia, Hermann Qualify for State Volleyball

Two area volleyball teams will be headed to Cape Girardeau later this week.

Borgia and Hermann hosted, and won, sectional volleyball tournaments Saturday.

In Class 3, Borgia (30-2-1) defeated Villa Duchesne, 26-24, 25-23, and then knocked out St. Dominic, 25-18, 21-25, 25-17, to earn its first state berth since finishing second in 2010.

In Class 2 Hermann (23-13) defeated Barat Academy, 25-11, 25-17, and upset Lutheran St. Charles, 25-21, 25-21, to earn a trip to the state tournament.

The state tournament will be played a the Show-Me Center on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

Borgia will face Lutheran South, St. Pius (Kansas City) and Carl Junction Friday in pool play. Borgia has beaten Lutheran South and Carl Junction this season already.

The championship is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday with the third-place game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Hermann will face St. Pius (Festus), Summit Christian and Fair Grove in pool play Friday. The championship match is set for 3 p.m. Saturday and the third-place match will be played at 9 a.m. Saturday.
