Beating Silex 9-0 on Tuesday was undoubtedly a gratifying feat for the Wright City baseball team.

But their most coveted victory came as the result of labor-some hours the night before, as families associated with the program rigorously worked to prepare the Wildcats' field.

Finally, on Tuesday, they were back in familiar, comfortable confines.

"It's great, because we put a whole bunch of work into this field in the past few days and to finally see us play a home game is pretty awesome," said senior Austin Meine, who pitched a gem for the Wildcats.

Efficient was the word of the evening for Wright City, who improved to 3-2 after a 10-day lull without games.

"I told the guys it was a very efficient game, and we were pretty much in control from the start," said Chapman.

With healthy run support taking the pressure off of him, Meine controlled each inning, striking out 10 batters and walking just one.

"I felt good," said Meine. "I was efficient and let my defense do the work. They played great, and the guys got me runs. It was a great overall game for everybody."

He also enjoyed a successful night at the plate, going 3-for-4, with a single and a double.

Senior Tyler Tuepker also shined in the Eastern Missouri Conference triumph, going 3-for-4, also with a single and a double.

"I felt good," said Tuepker. "I hit the ball well today ... This was a fun win for us."

Wright City wasted no time getting on the board, with junior Austin Marsh taking base on a walk and scoring off a Meine double two batters later.

The Wildcats surged ahead 2-0 when senior Tony Smythe drove home Meine.

"I think we came out with a bunch of energy," said Meine. "Playing at home is always exciting, especially for the home opener."

Wright City carried the momentum into the second inning, tacking on two more runs. Marsh scored senior Carlos Quiles and eventually reached home off Tuepker's double.

The Wildcats came up empty in the third and fourth innings, before unloading two more runs in the fifth and forcing a pitching change. Meine and freshman Donovan Posey collected singles during that frame.

Wright City circled the bases three more times in the sixth, with junior Dallas Deroy recording two RBIs.

"We feel we've got a pretty good team, and we played like it today," said Chapman. "It's what I expect out this team, quite frankly."

The Wildcats will Van-Far on Thursday and Orchard Farm on Friday.
