District Wrestling Tournaments Take Place Friday and Saturday

This weekend brings the first area district tournaments of the 2012-13 season.

Wrestling teams will go into district action Friday and Saturday at three different locations around the state.

Three area teams will be headed to Farmington for the Class 3 District 1 meet. Three teams are slated to go to Ste. Genevieve for the Class 2 District 1 meet.

And two teams have been assigned to Clinton for the Class 2 District 3 meet.

The top four finishers in each weight class at each of the district tournaments will qualify for the MSHSAA state meet at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia Feb. 14-16.

Class 3 District 1

It’s back to the Farmington Civic Center for Washington, Union and Pacific this season.

Those three schools are part of Class 3 District 1, which again is being hosted by Farmington High School.

Other schools there will be Cape Central, De Soto, Farmington, Festus, Hillsboro, North County, Poplar Bluff, Rockwood Summit, Sikeston, St. Mary’s Webster Groves and Windsor.

Three rounds are scheduled for Friday with the first round taking place at 6 p.m.

First-round wrestlebacks are set for 7 p.m. with the quarterfinals scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Wrestling resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. with the second round of wrestlebacks.

The championship and third-place matches are scheduled to take place somewhere around 5 p.m., but could vary based upon how fast the other rounds are concluded.

Class 2 District 1

St. Clair, Borgia and Sullivan have been assigned to Class 2 District 1, which will be hosted by Ste. Genevieve High School Friday and Saturday.

Other schools there will be Affton, Park Hills Central, Dexter, Lutheran South, Miller Career Academy, Cape Notre Dame, Potosi, Roosevelt, Soldan, Ste. Genevieve, Sumner and Vashon.

Three rounds are scheduled for Friday with the first round taking place at 6 p.m.

First-round wrestlebacks are set for 7 p.m. with the quarterfinals scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Wrestling resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. with the second round of wrestlebacks.

Class 2 District 3

Owensville and St. James are going to the Class 2 District 3 Tournament at Clinton High School.

Also there will be Bolivar, Boonville, Buffalo, Clinton, Harrisonville, Logan-Rogersville, Marshall, Monett, Nevada, Osage, Pleasant Hill and Reeds Spring.

First-round action begins at 5:30 p.m. with first-round wrestlebacks and quarterfinals also set for Friday.

Saturday’s action starts with second-round wrestlebacks at 10 a.m. The finals and third-place bouts are scheduled to take place somewhere around 4:30 p.m.
