Returning to action at home, the Union soccer Lady ’Cats hit double digits Wednesday in a 10-0 win over North County.
Union (11-2) scored six goals in the first half and four more in the second to finish it.
“We were excited to get another win,” said Union Head Coach Matt Fennessey. “The girls played really well. We scored six goals in the first 20 minutes. After that, we switched things around and did some fun things. We had some different girls score.”
Bethany Coons scored three goals for Union and added an assist. One of her goals was the game winner.
Alyssa Coons scored two goals and also had one assist.
Kayla Sitzes ended with two goals.
Abbie Brack and Bri Clark each scored one goal and one assist.
Emily Nowak contributed a goal.
Brittany Faber posted three assists. Brooke Breeden, Courtney Groves and Kayla Thornton each had one assist.
“We keep trying to get a goal for Brooke, but I guess her defensive skills won’t let her score.”
Briana Lakebrink made five saves in net for the shutout.
Union plays this weekend in the Laker Shootout in Camdenton.
Union played Warrensburg Friday and will face Waynesville and Heritage (Ark.), Saturday.
“We have three top-level schools in this tournament,” Fennessey said. “Heritage placed pretty high in their state tournament last year. I don’t think there’s an easy game there.”
Fennessey said Union has a busy week next week with four more games, including the Pacific Tournament championship contest next Friday.
“We’ve got seven games in seven days,” Fennessey said. “We’ll find out what we’ve got.”
