St. Clair opened softball action in the Class 3 District 9 Tournament with a 5-3 victory over Owensville Wednesday at Campbell Chapman Complex in Sullivan.
The fifth-seeded Lady Bulldogs (13-10) ended their season Thursday with a semifinal setback to top-seeded Sullivan (16-8), 12-0.
Owensville, seeded fourth, loaded the bases against St. Clair in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Lady Bulldogs escaped with the win.
“We accomplished our goal from the beginning of the year and that was to play our best softball yet,” said St. Clair Head Coach Rob Hauck. “We played really well as a team with a lot of high energy.”
Anna Reed pitched all seven innings for the win. She allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits with 12 walks and five strikeouts.
Karissa Hoffman led St. Clair’s nine-hit attack by going 3-4 at the plate with a double, one RBI and one run.
Reed reached base three times with a hit, two walks, one RBI and one run.
Alicia York collected one hit and two RBIs.
Tori Martin (double), Marissa Laubinger (double) and Nicole Nardi each had one hit and one run. Kayla Stevenson had a double.
