What a difference a day made.
After losing twice Saturday at the Kankakee Tournament, the East Central College softball Falcons swept two games Sunday in the event.
ECC (11-9) returns to action Tuesday at St. Charles Community College. The MCCAC doubleheader starts at 2 p.m.
The next home contest for the Falcons is Wednesday when Lindenwood-Belleville comes to Union for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
ECC dropped its Saturday games to Oakland, 10-2 in six innings, and to Kankakee, 11-3 in five innings.
On Sunday, the Falcons started with a 16-1 win in five innings over Moraine Valley. ECC capped the trip to Illinois with a 6-4 win over Waubonsee.
ECC picked up its first win in dominating fashion over Moraine Valley Community College Sunday, 16-1.
The Falcons scored once in the second, five times in the third, once in the fourth and nine times in the fifth. Moraine Valley scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth.
Julie Scheer (New Haven) pitched all five innings, allowing a home run among her two hits. She walked nobody and struck out three.
Offensively, Michelle Bryant (Crocker) led the way with four hits, including two doubles and a triple, while scoring twice and driving in five runs.
Scheer helped her own cause with three hits, including two doubles. She scored twice and drove in three runs.
Grace Fritz (Borgia) and Sara Wade (Union) posted two hits apiece. Each scored and drove in a run. Fritz also walked.
Batters with one hit each were Chloe Galati (Borgia), Abby Job (Warrenton), Brittany Miller (Lindbergh) and Haley Zenner (Dubuque, Iowa).
Galati scored three times and drove in one run. Job scored. Miller scored and drove in a run. Zenner homered, scored twice, drove in three runs and walked three times.
The Falcons followed up their big win to start Sunday with a 6-4 win over Waubonsee.
Each team scored in the first and ECC took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Waubonsee scored twice in the third and each team scored once in the fifth.
Scheer went the distance, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks. She struck out five.
Galati led the team offensively with three hits, including a double. She drove in two runs.
Alex Adelsberger (Timberland), Bryant, Fritz, Miller and Zenner posted one hit apiece.
Adelsberger scored a run. Bryant scored once. Fritz scored twice, sacrificed and stole a base.
Miller drove in a run and also had a sacrifice. Zenner scored, drove in a run, walked and stole a base.
Job walked and scored a run.
The Falcons opened the event with a 10-2 loss to Oakland.
Oakland scored twice in the second, but the Falcons got one run back in the third. Oakland added two runs in the bottom of the third. ECC scored once in the fourth, but Oakland finished it with four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Scheer pitched for the Falcons and went the distance, all 5.2 innings. She allowed 10 runs (seven earned) on 11 hits and four walks. Two of the hits were home runs. She struck out four.
Offensively, Fritz, Miller and Scheer had the three ECC hits.
Fritz and Miller doubled. Fritz also drove in a run and walked. Miller scored and walked. Scheer scored and stole a base.
Job also drew a walk.
The Falcons dropped their second game of the day to the host school, 11-3.
ECC struck first and scored once in the top of the second.
Kankakee set the tone for the game with five runs in the bottom of the frame. ECC scored once in the third, but Kankakee scored five times in the fourth. Each team scored once in the fifth.
Chelsea Bax (Fatima) started and took the loss. She allowed 10 runs (five earned) on 11 hits (two home runs) over 3.2 innings. Zenner pitched the final inning, allowing one run on two hits and four walks.
Offensively, Bryant led the way with two hits, including a double. She scored twice.
Adelsberger, Fritz, Scheer, Kris Stevens (Union) and Zenner posted one hit each.
Adelsberger also walked. Fritz drove in a run and sacrificed. Scheer drove in a run. Stevens sacrificed. Zenner drove in a run.
Miller walked and scored. Job was hit by a pitch.
