Owensville’s 16-game football losing streak came to an end Friday night against Pacific.

The Dutchmen (1-5, 1-2) held the lead throughout their home game and held off the Indians, 17-14.


Pacific (1-5, 0-4) accumulated 192 yards, 125 rushing and 67 passing.

Lucas Zurliene was 7-14 passing for 57 yards and two interceptions. He rushed for six yards on four attempts.

Chris Klenke was 1-11 passing for 10 yards and two interceptions. He carried the ball six times for 12 yards and scored one touchdown. He also had three catches for 38 yards.

Tanner Brown rushed for 44 yards on five carries and scored one touchdown.

Dalton Voyles carried the ball seven times for 43 yards.

Josh Vondriska rushed for 19 yards on five carries and added two receptions for six yards.

Duane Singleton finished with two catches for 20 yards. Jason Koepke had one catch for three yards.

Defensively, Voyles paced the Indians with 10 solo tackles and one assist.

Ashton Moore added five solos and two assists. Danny Nickelson finished with five solos.

Allen Fitzgerald registered four solo tackles, including a sack. Lane Smith, Logan Wells and Dustin Cowsert each had three solos and two assists.

Owensville accumulated 256 yards, 245 rushing and 11 passing.

Ben Angell was 2-5 passing for 11 yards. He also rushed for 33 yards on 10 carries and scored a touchdown.

Tristan Crofford carried the ball eight times for 137 yards and scored a touchdown.

Devon Dowler rushed for 35 yards on 12 attempts. Nick Plocinski added 25 yards on five carries. Chris Dolles had two catches for 11 yards.

Defensively, Morgan Huebner paced the Dutchmen with eight solo tackles, four assists and one interception.

Matt Pohlmann added eight solos. Plocinski and Angell both had an interception.

Game Summary

The Dutchmen grabbed a 7-0 lead just 19 seconds into the game on a 12-yard touchdown run by Angell.

The lead increased to 10-0 with 11:20 remaining in the second quarter on a 30-yard field goal by Drew Garner.

Pacific made the score 10-7 with 8:12 left in the second quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Brown.

Owensville responded with 6:24 left to play in the second quarter on a 68-yard touchdown run by Crofford to make the score 17-7.

The score remained 17-7 at halftime.

The only score of the second half was by Pacific’s Klenke on a two-yard touchdown run to make the score 17-14 with 10:33 left in the third quarter.

Week Seven Preview

Pacific returns to action Friday at Festus (5-1). Owensville travels to Union (4-2, 2-1).

The Tigers, who were ranked in the top 10 of the Class 4 state poll earlier in the season, will be a major challenge for the Indians.

They are averaging 49 points per game and have scored at least 36 points in each of their six contests.

Festus’ lone loss came two weeks ago against Hillsboro, 50-36, but rebounded last week to defeat North County, 44-20.

The Tigers also have beaten Sullivan, 42-7, along with Farmington, Windsor and De Soto.
